Jefferson Contractors has a story unlike any other—a story of resilience, reinvention, and lessons learned the hard way. The business rose from the ashes of Cavalier Junk Removal, a venture whose end was anything but graceful. Starting over in Blacksburg, VA, we began with nothing more than a chainsaw, an old white pickup truck, and a lot of determination. The early days were scrappy, to say the least, but they laid the foundation for the business we are today.

In those first years, we took on any job that came our way. One day we were hauling junk; the next, we were crafting tables out of reclaimed doors on a balcony convered with sawdust and... other things. Snow shoveling, backyard makeovers, even a stint announcing high school wrestling matches—whatever it took to keep going, we gave it a try. Mistakes were plentiful, and in the interest of full transparency, we weren’t always making the best decisions off the clock, either. Let’s just say we learned some hard lessons about balancing work and fun.

Not all of those lessons came easy. A few missteps led to damages, others to misunderstandings, and a handful even turned into lawsuits—all of which have since been resolved. Through it all, we took accountability, fixed our mistakes, and vowed to do better. We emerged stronger, humbler, and maybe just a little bit wiser.

From the bare-bones beginnings in Blacksburg to the hard-won experience we have today, every challenge has shaped us into a business that knows the value of perseverance. We’re not perfect, and we don’t pretend to be, but we’ve earned our stripes—and we’re here to help, one project at a time.
